Community Involvement

“To whom much is given, much is expected.”

I believe this whole-heartedly and that’s why community involvement is a priority for me. It’s also important that the causes I support empower others, specifically women and children, to create impact in their own lives and in their larger communities.  My involvement is not only financial; I am “all in” -- committing my time, leveraging my network and opening my home -- to support the success of these deserving organizations.

A little over a year ago, I became aware of youthSpark, a nonprofit based in the Fulton County Juvenile Court which serves exploited, abused and neglected youth locally.  They were the first to share with me the appalling statistics around child sex trafficking.  As a mother, I was outraged, and I was ready to get to work. At youthSpark, we say, “We are here to stand with our children.  To fight for transformation.  To kindle hope.  To change laws.  It only takes a spark to ignite something big.”

Caron Treatment Centers

Realizing that every family I know has been touched by addiction, I decided that I wanted to be equipped to understand and to help with this heart-breaking disease. Caron, a nationally recognized nonprofit provider of alcohol and drug addiction treatment, is one of the most respected providers in the country. I’ve been involved with Caron for several years and recently joined the board of directors.

International Rescue Committee (IRC)

I believe in the American Dream. I want to see new immigrants have a chance at life-changing success.  To that end, I am excited to be part of IRC’s new Atlanta Micro-Enterprise Program that is focusing on the creation of state approved home-based childcare in the immigrant communities. This will give women the chance to make money for their families as home childcare providers while providing a secure and affordable place for refugee families to leave their children.

Childspring International

It’s a family affair when it comes to Childspring International.  My husband is a member of their medical board.  My daughter has created artwork for the organization’s successful fundraising project, their annual holiday card. I organize fundraising events to benefit this life-changing organization.

Serving children and adults with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, CHADD has been an important organization to my family for many years.  Our son Walker has ADD and is thriving. We are grateful to be in position to help this organization with our financial support.
